Harry Middleton

Former Director, LBJ Presidential Library

Harry Middleton was the Director of the LBJ Presidential Library for thirty years, almost since its inception.  He was concurrently the Executive Director of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation, and continued to serve as Executive Director for an additional three years following retirement. 

Prior to holding those positions, he had a distinguished career in journalism as a reporter for the Associated Press in New York, news editor for Architectural Forum, a Time, Inc. Publication, and as a freelance writer and consultant for Reader’s Digest, Sports Illustrated, Collier’s, Cosmopolitan, and LIFE

Middleton served as staff assistant to the President from 1967 to 1969.  He assisted former President Lyndon Johnson in preparation of his memoirs and, until recently, taught a course on the Johnson Presidency at The University of Texas.
